After a very successful week at BBC Gardeners’ World Live where we won a platinum award and Best Summer Flower display the team are back together at the farm for a brief spell before some of us head off to the Hampton Court Flower Show.
Excitingly it’s time to start moving the motherstock into its summer home. We keep it in the polytunnel from November to early summer and then move it out of the heat where it can grow, flower and be checked for trueness to type over the summer months.
It is to have a new home this year with a beautifully prepared area, a new standing out area and irrigation system. It will look very smart but more importantly the collection will benefit hugely.
The dahlias are starting to grow in earnest in the Dahlia Garden now after a very strange early spring and a lovely dry spell over the last few weeks here in Cornwall with very little rain, it’s lovely to see fresh green growth emerging from the piles of mulch in the 2-acre field. It won’t be long before there is colour to see and a spectacle to enjoy.
