RHS Chatsworth Flower Show Afterthoughts

The RHS Chatsworth Flower Show brought with it amazing views and a gold medal for the dahlia team. For me this is all very new. I spent a thoroughly enjoyable weekend building the stand with Jon and Lorraine who are experts at this flower show business and I learnt a great deal. Dahlia ‘Totally Tangerine’ and ‘Karma Irene’ are 2 of the top sellers from the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show, we can’t keep them on the shelf!

I’m not going to fib and say that the medals don’t matter, because they do but the reaction from the visitors to the dahlias is fantastic. They are such a sunny, happy, colourful flower to look at and that’s before they begin to evoke memories and grandparents’ gardens and allotments – a powerful plant visually and emotionally.

We’re seeing a good amount of growth in the field which is exciting, we’re no different to any other dahlia grower in that we have to look out for slugs and rabbits. There is more and more colour in the motherstock tunnel too, this allows us to check that the varieties are named correctly – with so many varieties this is a very important job!

We’ve just loaded one of the vans for BBC Gardeners’ World Live where we will have a display, it’s a new show for us and we are looking forward to it. It’s always lovely to meet customers and dahlia enthusiasts, do pop by and meet the team.
